With the rapid evolution of the digital era, the GST Council has enhanced its operational areas and enabled smooth GST registration processes. The GST regulatory has rolled out the facility of GST registration through Aadhaar authentication for taxpayers. To enhance ease of doing business, Aadhaar authentication is mandatory.
GST Registration
GST Registration is a process for taxpayers to get their businesses GST registered. Upon successful GST Registration of a business, a unique registration number is assigned to the taxpayers known as the Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN). As per the GST Act 2017, businesses with an aggregate turnover of INR 20 Lakh (or INR 40 Lakh for goods’ supplier) and above in a financial year should mandatorily register for GST. In the GST regime, the aggregate turnover threshold for North-eastern and hill states to register for GST is INR 10 Lakh.

The GST registration fee varies as per the below-listed organization structure:
- Sole Proprietorship = INR 1000 plus GST @18%
- Partnership Firm = INR 1500 plus GST @18%
- Company =INR 2000 plus GST @18%
Is GST on the sale price or registration price in India?
GST will be applicable to the transaction value. All the expenses incurred by the supplier for making the supply will be considered as part of transaction value and GST will be charged on the same.
GST Registration through Aadhaar Authentication:
The Indian Government has facilitated step-by-step GST Registration process for businesses through opting Aadhaar Authentication:
- During GST Registration, applicant has an option to choose whether he wishes to authenticate Aadhaar.
- If the applicant chooses YES, an authentication link is shared on his registered mobile number and e-mails IDs of the business partners and authorized signatories.
- Upon clicking the authentication link, a screen appears with a declaration where the applicant needs to enter an Aadhaar number and click on “validate”.
- On successful validation, an OPT is sent to the applicant’s email and mobile registered with the Aadhaar. After entering OTP, a message of successful authentication gets generated.
- It is important to ensure that a users Aadhaar has an updated registered mobile number and email for expeditiously completing the process.
- For Aadhaar authentication, OTP is sent on the applicant’s registered mobile number and email address.
If the applicant chooses NO for GST registration through Aadhaar authentication, the GST Council may carry out necessary documentary and/or physical site verification before approving registration. If no action is taken by the tax authority within 21 days, the GST registration by the applicant shall be deemed as approved.
